50 million thank you's

It's hard to believe how far we've come since our founder, Jack Taylor, opened our first location in St Louis, Missouri in 1957. Since then, we've grown into an international business that operates in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland and Germany.

But the question is what do we do to mark such an occasion? We've already got various events planned for our employees and customers. But we wanted to do something else - something a bit bigger.

That's why we've decided to join forces with the National Arbor Day Foundation, a US forestation agency, to deliver the 50 million tree pledge. We've promised to fund the planting of 50 million trees over the next 50 years at a total cost of $50 million. That means one million new trees every year.

And it's not just the US that benefits. We plan to match our tree-planting with where we have business operations, which means that the UK, Ireland and Germany will also see a lot of new forestation. We're currently working with several local organisations to find out the best way to deliver on this pledge.

It's our way of saying thanks for the first fifty years of our business in a way that will also make a meaningful and significant contribution to the next fifty. We know our business has an impact on the environment, so we wanted to do something that would go some way towards alleviating it.

"We know a million trees a year is not a total solution, but it's a solid step in the right direction," says Jo Ann Taylor Kindle, President of the Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation. "And we're thrilled that we can make this long-term commitment on behalf of our employees for many, many years to come."
