A growing promise: Enterprise Rent-A-Car 50 Million Tree Pledge completes its second year

Enterprise began fiscal year 2007 by kicking off its celebration of 50 years in business with the Enterprise Rent-A-Car 50 Million Tree Pledge. First Lady Laura Bush ceremoniously planted the first tree in October 2006 to recognize Enterprise’s commitment to plant a million more each year for the next 50 years, a gift equivalent to $50 million in today’s dollars.

Working with The National Arbor Day Foundation, the U.S. Forest Service and Tree Canada, the Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation fulfilled year one of its pledge by underwriting the planting of 1 million trees in 2006 through reforestation projects in Alabama, California, Colorado, Michigan, Missouri, Oregon and British Columbia, Canada.

In appreciation of these efforts, the National Arbor Day Foundation honored Enterprise with the Promise to the Earth Award, which recognizes sustained commitment and leadership by a corporation that joins with the Arbor Day Foundation on special projects.

In 2007, that partnership and commitment included funding the tree planting projects on the map above.
